Backup barbecue tank?
Anyone have this problem regularly barbecues. You are using your tank to 20 pounds and stands in the middle to make a grill full of meat. What is your backup system? Options: 1) Always keep the tank full of other out there. I have to buy another tank and fill, occupy space, the greater danger. 2) Get a fuel gauge in the tank and make sure you refill before it's completely empty (Are some accurate indicators?) 3) Use a canister 1 pound backup. This requires that you have one of these adapters as the "meat shield" that allow you to connect a 1lb canister. (Anyone try one of these?) 4) Other?
I have encountered this problem many times, and unfortunately, not is no easy answer. I bought the gauges that indicate how low the tank really is. I even got one that is digital, but still not very precise. The meters magnet are the least accurate of all. Note that to obtain a precise answer to these meters, you have to use your grill at least 10 minutes before measuring. The 1lb. canisters are too much of a hassle for me, so I avoid it completely. I tried weight of the shell, pour the hot water trick, plus many others, with very mixed results. I used a caliper to keep my deposit and maintenance of a spare tank. Thus, I am sure I have gas when needed. I top up my tank replacement when the Gage has been in the middle of the tank at least 1 grill session.
