Barbecue without brickettes/lava rocks?
I just went barbecue shopping and picked up a reasonably priced one, assembled it, and there is a “Stainless Steel flame diffuser” instead of a grid to place lava rocks or ceramic brickettes on. Why is this, and can I jimmy-rig it to take brickettes? I think the brickettes give the bbq the best flavor.
Can I add lava rocks around the burner (under the flame diffuser) to add flavor?
You really don’t want to do that. The steel flame diffuser will give the same flavor as the ceramic briquetes or lava rock. Really. And with fewer flare-ups.
