how to start fire with regular real firewood?
ok so i really wanna start a fire but whenever i put the log in the fireplace and try to light it, it wont light. its not wet and i already tried the newspaper thing and i bought a fire starter thing and it still wont light….any other ideas?? please answer! thanks!!!!

The key to starting a fire properly is oxygen, tinder and kindling.
It’s important to start building the fire with something that is easy flammable at the bottom such as newspaper. Twisting it into rolls works great. You then need to add kindling (small pencil sized pieces of wood) on top of the fire. Then, the most important thing is to add smaller sized pieces of firewood on top of that. Smaller pieces meaning nothing larger than 3 inches in diameter.
It’s important not to smother the existing tinder and kindling, so be sure to place the firewood pieces stacked like a log cabin or in a pyramid shape. Eventually this will build up in intensity and you can progressively put larger logs onto the fire. You’ll have a roaring fire in no time!
One side note, be sure to heat up your flue by igniting a roll of newspaper before starting the fire. This will allow you to make sure that the chimney is drafting properly and you won’t end up with a smoke-filled living room.
