how to apply the decals to melamine plates?

I wonder how to apply the decals melamine plates, but being able to use Every Day. China does not – melamine! Decals are applied with water? heat? or both? Does anyone know the application process for this?? I want to be able to eat on plates and should be washable. Not concerned about security dishwasher or microwave. I make my own for a picnic or camping.

Do not think I can. The only way I know is to use clear plates and put the material into the background so they can be seen through the plate. Thus never touches the food, and knives and forks do not damage them. Decoupaged things I've seen some absolutely beautiful, too. Just coat with a couple coats of ModPodge. In the bottom
