My propane patio heater is turned off even though there is still plenty of propane, why?
Never NEVER make a reverse cylinder propane down !!!!!!!! This is very dangerous! Was I clear? Appliances including patio heaters are designed for vapor withdrawal. When the unit is in operation, the liquid in the tank is reduced to create more steam. When you change the state from a liquid to a vapor that expands 277 times! So as a small container with about 4 gallons of liquid propane grill can run for so long. When you activate the cylinder head that you are sending the liquid to the orifice of the burner! With the heater is operating now you have fluid leaking out of the hole, expanding into steam 277 times More Than the apparatus has been designed to handle, and then burn! You will have large flames coming from it. The dangerous problem with this approach is that when you close the supply gas, which will take several minutes for the fluid line and regulator to a boil. You basically have no control over the burner for several minutes! What probably happened is that the cylinder can not vaporize enough to supply the heater. The colder the outside temperature is the more difficult it is for the cylinder to "hold" with the demand of the appliance. Does the cylinder are covered with frost? Does the flame slowly fade and suddenly turns off completely? If so, you may need to use more cylinders. If only shuts down when operating normally, may be a defective thermocouple or gas valve.
