Can I convert a gas fireplace back to a fireplace and is expensive?
Originally a wood-burning fireplace, converted to natural gas about 7 years ago. All original fireplace still there, including dampers, chimney flue and intake vents. My idea was to return about 8 10 feet and the top of the gas line, then remove the gas line, gas burners and fake logs in the fireplace. Finally have a pro (Plummer?) To inspect before lighting the fire. In a secure environment for maintenance personnel skill level?
Sounds good to me, but no fireplace is a very efficient heat source if that is what you seek. Not only can feed a stack of logs fast enough, and they suck more heat from the air than it produces. If you're okay with that, I see no problem here. Otherwise, could be inserted into wood stove instead, if you really want the warmth of wood.
